This workshop is an opportunity for agency Board members to learn the ins and outs of financial statements so that they can fulfill their role as fiduciaries. When is the last time your organization has reviewed its bylaws for consistency with current practices? Do your board members fully understand their responsibilities as provided in the bylaws of the organization? If you cannot confidently answer these questions, now is the time to take a closer look at this important governing document. There are many external entities—the IRS, governing authorities, grant providers, donors, and the media—that look to a nonprofit’s governing documents to determine with compliance with stated policies and, of course, the law.

United Partners for Human Services and Leadership Tallahassee are working together to bring to you a series of four board trainings!

Board members are legally required to be informed and active participants in the governance of not-for-profit corporations and in helping to fulfill the organization’s purpose and mission. This quick and dirty session will run through the nature of nonprofit board members’ legal duties to an organization, the basis of legal liabilities for board members, and some best practices that directors can implement to create an effective board and (hopefully) steer clear of some common pitfalls. Janeia Daniels Ingram, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at Florida State University College of Law and Mark Payne, CPA/Partner at James Moore and Company will be presenting.

This is a free training and lunch will be provided but space is limited to 25 so please register early!
